Roger's Todd Manning

Flashback #2: Prison Blues & The Great Escape

Todd thought for sure he was going to get away with what he did to Marty, but she wasn't going to let him off the hook so easy. In the following clips, you will see just how she made sure Todd and his friends paid for what they did to her, as well as a sampling of what life in prison was like for Todd. It was a dark period for him, but also a period of growth in many ways. Though he spent a great deal of his time plotting his eventual escape and revenge on those who helped put him in Statesville, mainly lawyer Nora Gannon who threw his case, the audience also got more intimate glimpses into what made Todd Manning tick.

It was during his time in prison that Todd met a sweet young missionary named Rebecca Lewis. She played a key role in helping the audience to see that there was so much more to Todd than we had previously seen. Though Todd used Rebecca in order to make his escape successful, it was clear that he also had genuine tender feelings for the naive young woman. She was the only person left in Llanview at that time who cared whether he lived or died, and when he escaped she gave him food, shelter and what little money she had. Her generous, selfless acts touched Todd in a profound way.
